RWE Gas Slovensko successfully penetrates the Slovak natural gas market
- The company has now started offering natural gas to smaller enterprises
- RWE Gas Slovensko has a share of 10% on the market of major industrial enterprises
Prague, 16 September 2009 – From 2010, RWE Gas Slovensko, a subsidiary of RWE Transgas, will start supplying natural gas to medium-sized companies with consumption in excess of 1 GWh (100,000 m3). The company is thus continuing its successful operation on the Slovak market, which it entered only last year.
“By offering natural gas supplies to medium-sized companies, we are reacting to interest in this market segment,” Martin Hermann, Chairman of the Board of the parent RWE Transgas, explains the decision for expanding the activities of RWE Gas Slovensko.
In 2009, RWE Gas Slovensko has supplied major industrial customers with 2.1 TWh (210 mil. m3), thus attaining a 10% market share in this customer segment. Unlike the Czech market, the Slovak gas market has not been entirely liberalised yet. The market is open for all customers, but prices for households are still regulated.

RWE Gas Slovensko, a subsidiary of RWE Transgas, entered the Slovak natural gas market in 2008. RWE has been active in Slovakia for five years through the company Východoslovenská energetika, which currently supplies electricity to about 500,000 customers.
RWE, an international energy group, manages its business activities in the Czech Republic via RWE Transgas, which is responsible for the purchase, transit and wholesale of natural gas. RWE secures the purchase of natural gas to more than 2.3 million end customers via regional gas companies: RWE Energie, Jihomoravská plynárenská, Severomoravská plynárenská, and Východočeská plynárenská. The RWE Group comprises 19 companies in the Czech Republic.
